Library
Prologue
The history of development of Administrative
Training Institute Library is relatively young and goes back to
the establishment of ATI West Bengal in 1982 to impart training of
State as well as Central Civil Service Executives and other
Government Officials. At the beginning a few books were collected
and stored in a separate room. During the year 1995 library was
shifted to a separate building. Full-phased library started
functioning with total collection of 6937 documents.
Floor Area
At present
two floors of library building are simultaneously used. Librarian’s
chamber, book stack, display of new arrival of books (new
inclusion), processing unit (new inclusion), preservation unit
(new inclusion), reading room, reference section (new inclusion),
computer section, and a reading area containing 25 seating
arrangements are situated in the 1st floor.
Journal display unit, Report display and
storage section, daily newspaper display and storage section, and
another reading area containing 24 seating arrangements are in the
2nd floor. Two staff members, (one group C and one group D) sit in
the 2nd floor.
Classification and Cataloguing
All the book documents have been classified
following DDC 22nd edition classification code. All the documents
were properly classified as per subject. We are using Computerised
cataloguing system.
Total Number of books and Serials
Total Document collection in the library is near about 19000,
out of which book collection is 14800. Every year 54 serials are
received in the library. Every day 10 newspapers are displayed in
the library for the readers.
Computerization
Backlog of Library’s book database has
been made up-to-date. The library service should reach up to the
door-step of users. After thorough study of existing software
available in the market, it has been decided that the e-granthalaya,
an integrated library management software should be used in the
library. It is a standard software based on
MARC-2 format. This software controls most of the library works.
Now the total library database has been accessible through web
browser. Wide coverage of search items facilitates the users to
access the library database in various aspects. At present OPAC
browsing is possible within ATI campus (intranet facility is
available).
Library Hour
Library service starts from 9.30 a.m. and
closes at 7.30 p.m.
Special collection of library
Recently wide areas of IAS study
materials have been collected in the library. This will facilitate
coaching center of Civil service, which will start very soon in
the ATI.
